Information On Kilmarnock

Kilmarnock is large town located in East Ayrshire some 24 miles south of Glasgow City and sits on the M77 motorway that stretches between Stranraer and joins the M8 in Glasgow. By road it is approx 35 minutes drive to Glasgow Airport and just over 1 hour to Edinburgh Airport with no direct rail or buses to either.

Famous for many things none more so than Johnnie Walker who in 1820 introduced selling whisky in his familys high street convienence store. Johnnie Walker is now the most widely sold blended Scotch whisky anywhere throughout the world. The area is very proud of Johnnie Walker and his achievements and have erected a statue in his memory at Laigh Kirk close to the town centre.

A 15 minute drive will take you to mile after mile of white sandy beaches at Troon, Prestwick or Ayr and give you spectacular views across to the Isle of Arran and on a clear day The Giants Causway in Ireland.

For the traveler keen on a visit to Ireland a 60 mile trip south down the M77/A77 will allow ferry travel to both Belfast and Larne in Northern Ireland. The crossings take approx 2 hours so day trips or longer are available, There are two ferry companies that sail and both offer deals for foot and car passengers. Below you can access their websites and if your patient enough deals do pop up frequently.
