It remained for sale until 2013 when the Scottish Government stepped in and purchased it for £1.00 fearing total closure and the loss of up to 4000 jobs. It remains in government hands today (2020) and although there are still losses of over 2 millions pounds per annum the airport has thrived in certain areas namely its engineering campus that houses many world leading companies such as BAE Systems, Woodward, GE Caledonian & Spirit Aerosystems but to name only a few.
